Walls of Onyx Map

I'm in the midst of writing a book 'Walls of Onyx' which features a vast world for which I drew an old styled map. For this I used a square sheet of cloth and with a pen carefully applied the mountains, trees and letters. Before I did so I had a rough draft of what I wanted the map to look like so I had guidelines as I drew it all on.

Peridot Figurine

One of my home crafts is this Peridot figurine from the show 'Steven Universe'. It's made entirely out of air dry clay and painted with acrylics. The first step was to make the rough shapes of each of the body parts which were then held together by pieces of wire. I needed them to be able to fit into one another but also be able to remove them at will.

I then took each of these sections and sanded them down with sand paper. The character has both flat and rounded surfaces so sanding it proved to be a challenging but fun task.

The pieces were later painted with acrylics before I put them back together. This ensured I wouldn't get any paint on parts I didn't want.

After the paint dried I added a facial expression to the character as the final touch.

DeviantArt is where I upload images of my work. I also do some photography and mainly add what doesn't appear on my YouTube channel. This helps me sort the video from photographs and tells the audience where to go if they want to see more.

Youtube - Cosplay Emerald

Cosplay Emerald is my YouTube channel dedicated to homemade crafts of all sorts to which I add new content every month.
These crafts include gaming props such as hand guns or small accessories and even full scale costumes.

Here's an example

Techniques and Processes.

Scaling twice life size replica
Equipment: Modelling tools, Spray bottle, measuring tools
Materials: Clay, water

During the scaling process I used wooden boards covered in a layer of plastic to prevent the clay from sticking to the surface of the board. I also attached a thick aluminum rod that would work well with the shape of our sculpture to hold the clay in place and prevent it from falling off or wobbling on the board.

The clay I used was called the grey buff body clay which is the most commonly used when it comes to sculpting.
I casted a palm of the hand held in a fist position.

Before I begun shaping my sculpture I measured the heights and the sides of my life size sculpture and doubled the digits to know what size they have to be on the big board.
I marked the key sides of my sculpture to get a general idea of how much clay needs to be applied in each section.
The process I used when measuring is called profiling.
It means that I checked the height of my life size sculpture as well as the edges and middle sections which gave me a clear perspective of where clay needs to be applied in larger quantities.

I also learned cross stitching which i used to sew thick pieces of poly wadding together for a pregnancy padding.

I also know how to carve muscles and place them inside lycra pockets and attach to a bodysuit.

Fur application has also been on my course. I know how to apply strips of fur onto netting and make a sleeve with fur.

Below are images of my mould for a front view face. I used clay to make a wall around the head and used fast setting silicon to create the mould.

Universtiy Puppet Head

Part of my 1st year university work required us to create moulds and casts made out of either silicon or plaster. We worked with clay to create sculptures and latex to cast them out of plaster moulds. Here are examples of my work.

Destiny Blueprints

Part of my tutorial required me to create blueprints for the sculpt. I carefully measured each individual piece and put those measurements into Photoshop to create scaled parts of the destiny prop model. This shows my ability to work with scale in both 3D and digitally.
